The National Park Foundation

The National Park Foundation

The National Park Foundation, working closely with the National Park Service, is dedicated to preserving natural, historic, and culturally significant sites in the United States.

In the News

On August 9, 2018, the National Park Foundation will team up with the Santa Monica Mountains (SAMO) Fund to host a graduation ceremony for participants of the SAMO Youth Mentor Program. At the graduation, high school students will celebrate the end of their summer work at the Santa Monica Mountains, where they completed a hands-on, educational, and eye-opening mentorship program. Throughout the course of the program, students learn about the National Park Service’s mission, values, and operations. The program employs students for two consecutive summers, which provides a direct connection to potential future internships and jobs.

Nurturing a Passion for Nature

In 1967, the National Park Foundation was chartered by Congress as the charitable partner of the National Park Service. Since its founding, the Foundation has worked to preserve the country’s national parks and historically significant sites across the United States.

As part of its mission, the National Park Foundation is deeply committed to broadening access to visitors of national parks.  Through signature initiatives including “Every Kid in a Park” (EKIP) and SAMO Youth,  NPF respectively provides free access to national parks for fourth-grade students and their families, and a youth mentoring program, offering  high school students from park-poor areas of Los Angeles the opportunity for summer work as “junior rangers” for two consecutive summers, creating opportunities for future internships and jobs.
