Loving Hands Community Care Transforms Mother's Day Into Healing Holiday

The nonprofit organization based in the Los Angeles community of Watts is hosting its 17th annual Mother's Day luncheon on May 4.

Mother's Day is a joyous and celebratory occasion for many matriarchs. But for bereaved mothers, this holiday can prove to be especially challenging. Loving Hands Community Care seeks to help by hosting its annual Mother's Day Healing Luncheon, which strives to comfort these grieving mothers by providing a space for them to reflect and restore.

The complimentary event — which takes place on the weekend before Mother's Day — seeks to motivate and inspire through programming that features a meal, speakers (including Los Angeles City Councilman Tim McOsker), a gospel choir, a masseuse, multiple raffles, and plenty of conversation. The support doesn't stop at the end of the day. The organization offers wraparound services for mothers that include court accompaniment, escorts to viewings, and long-term aftercare.

Loving Hands was founded in 2008 by Los Angeles mother Kathy Wooten after two of her sons were killed by gang violence only months apart. GRoW is honored to continue its longtime support of this important community organization.
