Los Angeles Urban League Honors Legendary Civil Rights Leader

On June 30, the Los Angeles Urban League (LAUL) gives Reverend James M. Lawson, Jr. the Centennial Award at its Whitney M. Young, Jr. Gala in Beverly Hills.

Each year, the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Awards pay tribute to community leaders whose work embodies LAUL's mission to educate and empower African Americans and other minority groups. The 2022 ceremony recognizes American civil rights activist and university professor Reverend James M. Lawson, Jr., whose life's work has illuminated his commitment to and impact on numerous social movements over the past 70 years. Reverend Lawson is widely considered the architect and chief tactician of the nonviolence movement alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the 1960s.

GRoW is a committed supporter of the Los Angeles Urban League.
