Los Angeles' first permanent symphony orchestra demonstrates an unwavering commitment to the proliferation of captivating and compelling music.
The New York Philharmonic (also known as the NY Phil) boasts a rich history of more than 175 years of music and performance. Regarded as one of the world's greatest orchestras, the NY Phil has commissioned and premiered important works by leading composers, dating back to its debut of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in 1846.
For decades, the orchestra has worked with emerging technology to create new opportunities to listen to its recordings, from radio broadcasts in the 1920s to present-day Facebook Live concerts and the GRoW-funded Sound ON music series. Calling the reimagined David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center home, the NY Phil serves up to 50 million people each season through live concerts, worldwide tours, its digital recording series, education programs, and international broadcasts on television, radio, and online.
