In 2010, David Kipen opened Libros Schmibros in the Boyle Heights neigborhood of Los Angeles to bring free books to all people, regardless of their status or means. From native Angelenos to immigrants, the library has since evolved into a gathering place for inspiring thought and conversation in the library and shared beyond its walls with a blog and a podcast. In its first 12 years, Libros has welcomed 40,000 patrons and put 50,000 books in circulation in Boyle Heights, and beyond. Dubbed "The best library in the world" by the Paris Review, Libros Schmibros continues to grow as a community resource for books and conversations that help improve and change lives.
