Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

The artist-founded museum in Los Angeles houses almost 8,000 objects that comprise one of America's most compelling collections of contemporary art.

Encouraging Contemporary Expression

Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA)

The Museum of Contemporary Art is dedicated to collecting and exhibiting diverse contemporary works as well as adapting to changing definitions of "art." The museum showcases work created after 1940 by artists from across the globe and leads the way in original scholarship and interpretations of these works. MOCA welcomes visitors at two Los Angeles venues — MOCA Grand Avenue, which hosts the museum's main galleries, and the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, a former police car warehouse transformed into 40,000 square feet of exhibition space — as well as to the Nevada desert, where lies Michael Heizer's land art Double Negative. Designed to engage and challenge, MOCA encourages audiences of all backgrounds to enjoy exhibitions, participate in educational programming, and commune with contemporary art.
