The Department of Biology at the University of Hawaii at Manoa was first established in 1966 and later became an official department within the College of Natural Sciences. As part of the college, the department works in tandem with the university's departments and programs in the biological sciences. The department's interdisciplinary curriculum is taught by leading researchers in the fields of biology, cellular and molecular biology, molecular biosciences and bioengineering, plant and environmental protection sciences, and women's studies. The undergraduate and graduate programs offer students a rigorous education surrounded by Hawaii's rich biodiversity while preparing them for careers in such fields as aquaculture, biotechnology, biological research, dentistry, marine biology, medicine, optometry, park services, pharmacy, and teaching.
