Illuminating the Life and Legacy of Jazz Musician Roy Hargrove

Through interviews with Hargrove's mentors and collaborators, including such musical royalty as Herbie Hancock, Questlove, Erykah Badu, and Wynton Marsalis, the documentary sheds light on the genius of this revered hard-bop trumpeter, who died in 2018. Hargrove explores the Grammy-winning musician's struggles with poverty, addiction, and genetic disease while illustrating the tenacity and capacity of the human spirit to overcome and rise to towering heights. In addition, the documentary reveals the important role of jazz in American culture and history. Directed by filmmaker Eliane Henri, Hargrove is scheduled to be released in 2021.
