International Fund for Public Interest Media

A fundamental pillar for the functioning of a democratic society, independent media is under an unprecedented and, in some settings, existential threat. Traditional business models — which have been eroding for more than a decade — are collapsing, particularly in under-resourced countries, a problem that was only exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The International Fund for Public Interest Media (IFPIM), which is a fiscally sponsored project of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, is designed to provide financial support to independent media organizations in crisis and accelerate systemic solutions. Currently based in Paris, IFPIM aids outlets working in the public interest and experimenting with innovations that capitalize on technology and engage more diverse audiences. In addition, the fund supports initiatives that tackle market challenges and seek to effect change on a macro level. IFPIM carries out its critical mission while maintaining the independence of both the fund and its public interest grantees.
