Central Park Conservancy

Spanning 843 acres, Central Park is an essential public space in the heart of Manhattan, greeting more than 42 million visitors each year. Chartered in 1858 to address the recreational needs of the growing city, Central Park offers an escape from the stress of city life with its welcoming lawns, brooks, woodlands, and athletic fields. Today, the park hosts concerts, plays, rallies, sporting events, and other gatherings.

The Central Park Conservancy's mission is to preserve the iconic park as a sanctuary in the city. Founded in 1980, the conservancy sought to rescue a national treasure sullied by litter, graffiti, and neglect. Today, the organization remains committed to maintaining and beautifying the park, including horticultural, tree and turf care, trash management, and visitor services. It also offers community engagement programs in all five New York boroughs. In serving the environment and community, the Central Park Conservancy and its 300-plus employees ensure the future of the park for all to enjoy.
