The Alliance for Strong Families and Communities was founded in 1911 as the Association for Societies for Organizing Charity and endeavored to share information between charity organizations, raise standards of operations, and prevent poverty. Over the last century, the Washington, D.C.-based organization has changed its focus and name several times in response to economic and social conditions. In 2015, it became the Alliance for Strong Families and Communities and has since prioritized building high-impact organizations across the country that contribute to its vision of a healthier and more equitable future.
Today, the alliance's membership includes direct service organizations, state associations, foundations, universities, and for-profit organizations. Bound by a desire to help individuals and families achieve their full potential, members provide programs in education, counseling, workforce development, adoption and foster care, neighborhood revitalization, civic engagement, and advocacy. Additionally, the alliance serves as a thought leader for the nonprofit sector. With robust online learning opportunities that include courses, webinars, and conferences, the alliance seeks to drive best practices in the sector and promote organizational excellence.
