The Widows, Orphans, and & Disabled Firefighters Fund was founded in 1906 to support the families of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters who were injured or killed in the line of duty, or who are experiencing other serious crises. The fund provides these families with various forms of critical relief, including financial aid for basic living expenses and health insurance, memorial scholarships for the children of firefighters, and durable medical equipment for firefighters struggling with injuries or chronic illnesses. The organization also provides offers occasion-specific financial support, such as funeral assistance. In addition, the Widows, Orphans, & Disabled Firefighters Fund helps to underwrite the operations of support groups for the families of firefighters. These resources for the families of Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters have become all the more important in recent years, as firefighters in the region have faced increasingly dangerous and destructive wildfires.
