Reinventing Care for the Underserved

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital opened its new facilities in South Los Angeles in 2015 through an innovative public-private partnership between several healthcare providers, the County of Los Angeles, and the University of California. The hospital is dedicated to providing the highest quality care to all those who need it, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. The hospital's comprehensive services include high-caliber emergency services as well as surgical, critical care, and labor and delivery units.

MLK Community Hospital also offers primary and specialty care in its outpatient doctors' offices located throughout South L.A. Further, it operates several programs beyond the hospital walls to ensure the health of the South L.A. community. Know Your Basics offers free health screenings and health education, You Can brings students to the hospital and healthcare professionals to classrooms to introduce medical career pathways, Recipe for Health offers resources to community members with diabetes, and Man Up! provides free health screenings at local barbershops.
