Orchestrating Masterful and Daring Musicianship

Kronos Quartet

In 1973, musicians David Harrington, John Sherba, Hank Dutt, and Sunny Yang joined forces to create the Kronos Quartet, an avant-garde enterprise that aimed not to adhere to Western European tradition but to greatly expand the possibilities of a string quartet. Since then, Kronos has performed thousands of concerts all over the world, released more than 70 diverse recordings, and collaborated with music luminaries including Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, Philip Glass, Chinese pipa virtuoso Wu Man, Indian table virtuoso Zakir Hussain, and Azeri master vocalist Alim Qasimov. The Grammy-winning quartet — which has graced recordings from such artists as Nine Inch Nails, Dave Matthews Band, Joan Armatrading and Angélique Kidjo — also offers masterclasses, classroom visits, benefit performances, and coaching sessions.
