When the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) opened in 1911, it was home to just nine works of art. Today, NOMA's collection has grown to include over 40,000 objects. Not only is NOMA the oldest fine arts institution in the city, it is also one of the South's premier museums. The museum is particularly well-known for its collections of American, French, Japanese, and African art. It is also home to one of the world's most-renowned sculpture gardens – the Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden – which contains more than 60 magnificent installations. NOMA provides dynamic programming for families, students, and community members to enjoy all that the institution offers. In 2019 alone, NOMA welcomed more than 300,000 visitors.
