Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocuast Education (OJMCHE) began in 1989 as a "museum without walls," when Rabbi Joshua Stampfer led a community conversation about the need for a museum to preserve the legacy of Jewish life in Oregon. During the museum's early years, it exhibited collections related to Jewish life at a variety of venues in Oregon. In 1999, the Oregon Jewish Museum transitioned from a museum without walls to a collection of works and exhibitions housed in a building in Montgomery Park. In 2014, the museum merged with the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center and changed its name to the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education. Since the merging of these two organizations, OJMCHE has deepened its dedication to preserving Jewish cultural history and passing along the painful lessons of the Holocaust so that history is never repeated. Through its exhibits and educational programming, OJMCHE encourages visitors to engage in intercultural conversations, foster an appreciation for Jewish culture, and to advocate for a world free of injustice or discrimination.
