Housed at the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco's cultural corridor, SFJAZZ is an international champion of the study, performance, and appreciation of jazz. The organization is committed to understanding and embodying jazz's dynamic history in American society – from its roots in the African American community to its international proliferation. It does so through diverse programming, including its annual performance season, the SFJAZZ Summer Sessions, and the San Francisco Jazz Festival, as well as by offering educational opportunities for aspiring musicians.
In 2004, SFJAZZ founded the SFJAZZ Collective, a leaderless group and a democratic composer's workshop performing the latest representations of today's celebrated jazz artists. Additionally, SFJAZZ offers classes, workshops, and concerts for children, families, and schools. This plethora of programming reinforces the idea of jazz as a vital catalyst for bringing communities together.
