Three theaters hosting opera have stood at Covent Garden in London since 1732. The current theater, which was constructed in 1858, became the home of what is now the Royal Opera, the Royal Ballet, and the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House.
Every year, more than 1 million visitors from around the world visit the Royal Opera House to enjoy world-class performances of opera, ballet, theatre, and classical music. The Royal Opera stages approximately 150 performances of 20 operas each season, and almost half of these productions are new. In 2012, the company began curating the Studio Programme in the Linbury Studio Programme, which offers chamber operas and experimental new commissions from rising and veteran composers. In addition, the Royal Opera House's educational programs give students the opportunity to learn dance and performance skills.
