Versailles Foundation

One of the greatest achievements in French 17th century architecture, the Palace of Versailles served as the principal residence of French kings from Louis XIV to Louis XVI and the French government. Prior to Louis XIV, the palace had been the hunting pavilion of his father, Louis XIII; for many years after Louis XIV, a succession of kings ruled from the state and continued to beautify it. Today, the 2,300-room palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcomes nearly 10 million visitors each year to tour its hallowed halls, experience exhibitions, and participate in events.

The Versailles Foundation also supports the preservation of French painter Claude Monet's home and gardens in Giverny, France. In addition, the foundation has contributed funding to restoration projects in Portugal, Italy, and the United States.
