The Aquarium of the Pacific greets over 1.5 million visitors per year, making it the fourth most-attended aquarium in the nation. There are over 11,000 animals on exhibit that represent over 500 different species living in the Pacific Ocean. In addition to these exhibits, the Aquarium offers educational programs that explore the three regions of the Pacific Ocean: the Northern Pacific, the Southern California and Baja region, and the Tropical Pacific. Other popular exhibits include the Shark Lagoon and Penguin Habitat. The Aquarium also provides visitors with programs about breeding and conservation, housing of sea animals unfit for release, beach and habitat cleanups, green business practices, and the many threats to the ocean's health, including over-harvesting, habitat destruction, and global climate change.
