Empowering Artists, Encouraging Experimentation

Z Space

Founded in 1993, Z Space (formerly known as Z Space Studio) was created to foster the development of new theatrical works. Over the years, the theatre group and performing arts company has encouraged artists to take risks, experiment stylistically, and collaborate with their peers. Z Space operates two performance venues in the city's Mission District: a 244-seat main stage and an 85-seat black box. In addition to encouraging and empowering artists, Z Space operates several initiatives, including Word for Word, a program that translates works of literature and adapts them for the stage. GRoW has funded the Word for Word program in France, which works to translate great stories by staging elaborate performances based on classic and contemporary fiction. Z Space has been performing in high schools, libraries, and universities across France since 1996.
