In 1971, a generous contribution from the late Ambassador Walter H. Annenberg established the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Southern California (USC). In 1994, it was renamed the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. The school currently offers doctoral, master's, and bachelor's degrees in a number of fields, including communication, journalism, and public relations. More than 2,200 enrolled students participate in an interdisciplinary curriculum that emphasizes leadership, entrepreneurship, and service.
In 2007, a grant from the Annenberg Foundation established the USC Annenberg Center on Communication Leadership & Policy (CCLP), located at the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. The Founding Director of CCLP was Annenberg Family Chair in Communication Leadership Geoffrey Cowan, former Dean of the Annenberg School at USC. CCLP offers students the opportunity to conduct innovative research, participate in professional development programs, and network with industry leaders. The Center embodies the Annenberg School's mission to use communication and journalism-based education to shape the next generation of thinkers, innovators, and leaders.
