Founded in 1999 to showcase the critical role that visual artists play in society, Artadia seeks to support artists at crucial points in their career and to build networks and communities in the art world. Each year, the organization opens an application process in which visual artists in seven major cities across the United States can apply for awards. Following a rigorous selection process, finalists in each city receive an unrestricted grant ranging from $5,000 to $20,000. In addition to financial support, finalists become part of a community of well-connected and respected artists, which include the previous recipients of these awards. Since its establishment, Artadia has awarded more than $6 million in unrestricted funds to 400-plus individuals and it continues to find new ways to help artists flourish.
