Founded in 1869, the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) seeks to inspire and educate visitors and community members through exhibits and educational programs. AMNH is deeply committed to enhancing the science literacy of the public and providing what it calls a "panorama of the world's cultures." The institution houses: the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, which provides programs focused on supporting science teaching and learning among K-12 students and professional development for thousands of teachers; the Center for Lifelong Learning, which offers out-of-school programs for children and public programs for families and adults; and the National Center for Science Literacy, Education, and Technology, which creates content and strategies that bring AMNH's scientific knowledge, collections, and science education to schools, homes, and communities nationwide.
