Recognizing and Upholding Excellence in the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences

Academy Museum of Motion Pictures

The Academy Museum offers impressive exhibitions and programs that bring cinema to life and showcase the exceptional collections of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (the organization that oversees the prestigious Academy Awards). The museum is housed in the renovated and expanded May Company building (now called the Saban Building) in Los Angeles, the film production capital of the world. The museum's seven floors feature: exhibition, gallery, and special-event spaces; the Shirley Temple Education Studio, which hosts workshops and learning opportunities for visitors; and two theaters presenting screenings, film series, panel discussions, and programming that illuminates the artistic and cultural contributions of an international selection of movie artists. The rich, complex, and diverse stories of the movie industry — including the art, history, technology, and impact — are unspooled inside these walls.
